SARS-CoV-2 has 4 structural components: 1) the Envelope protein (E protein), 2) Membrane glycoprotein (M protein), 3) S protein, and 4) Nucleocapsid protein (N protein). The RBD of S protein binds to Angiotensin converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) on the human cell surface to initiate viral entry. The N protein promotes helical nucleocapsid formation during viral assembly while the E and M proteins are the key structural components of SARS-CoV-2.
